Visit the Viking Council and Many Point Virtual Patch Museum!
Virtual Patch Museum

DID YOU KNOW?

We are continuing to build an on-line archive of all of the Viking Council shoulder strips  AND  all of the Many Point patches that were issued to campers since Many Point opened over 60 years ago.

The results of the effort are posted on the ScoutingBSA web site for all to enjoy.  Here's what we need:

1:  If you have a Many Point patch that you want to donate, we will pass any patches received to Many Point to be used for the museum up at the camp.  With each patch, we need to know the year that the patch was issued.  The Camp Director is unaware of any complete records of the different patches that have been issued, other than the efforts of the volunteers of the Alumni Association which are displayed in the museum.  Their collection is not complete.  We have over 100 patches so far, thank you for your help!  We think that there are probably about another 20 or 30 that we still need to find.

The same situation holds true for the Viking Council strips, and there do not seem to be any records to even begin looking.  There are no "Alumni Associations" for the Council, so we need your assistance even more with these items.  Now that Viking Council and Indianhead Council have merged to form Northern Star Council, at least the number of missing patches from Viking Council will get smaller..

2:  If you want to loan a patch to us to use for scanning into the database, that would also be appreciated.  We will return it to you if you would provide a self addressed, stamped envelope.  Again, details on the date the patch was issued would be appreciated.

3:  If you have a high quality scanner, and you are more comfortable just sending an image, that would be greatly appreciated.  You can email a JPG file of the patch to us.  Please scan at 300 DPI (Yes, I know this will be a large file) and save the image as a JPG file.  Include as many of the details about the patch as you can remember.

We are posting the patches for Many Point at:
  http://www.scoutingbsa.org/Council_Info/Patch_Museum/Patch_Museum.html

You can look and see if we have a sample of what you have in your collection.  You can still give one to the museum even if we already have a picture.  We have been making some very large reproductions of these patches in the form of posters for the camp to keep in their museum.

The Viking Council strips do not go back as far as the Many Point patches because the red/white strip with the council name was all that was used up until about 1970.  We are looking for a Council Patch that is supposedly the same shape as today's but is all red thread with white lettering for the council name.  No one seems to know where to find one, but many remember it...  We have a lot of Council patches so far, so thank you for your efforts to date!

Council strips with dates will be displayed at:
  http://www.scoutingbsa.org/Council_Info/Patch_Museum/Patch_Museum.html

Credit will be given to each person that contributes a scan or a patch or information to help us build the collection.

The ScoutingBSA.org web site is a legacy site of the Viking Council BSA, now Northern Star Council.
This site was the original council site and was active from 1996 to 2002 and run by volunteers.  As the web became more important to Scouting, the council took over with paid staff.  This site is no longer maintained but is an interesting snapshot of an early Scouting web site.    You can share your comments
using our on-line form or send a message to the Webmaster.   Thank you for visiting!
